Laparoscopy

Keyhole surgery technique for female infertility treatment

What is Laparoscopy Technique?

Laparoscopy also known as Keyhole surgery is a technique of endoscopic surgery which is used to address various health conditions in the lower abdomen and pelvic area. Laparoscopy is done by making small incisions on the skin, in a way that patients face almost zero pain and discomfort. It is used to conduct surgical procedures on the outer layer of organs in the pelvic region.

Laparoscopy has a huge reputation among fertility experts of AFIC because it presents a less painful alternative with faster recovery than normal surgical methods. The procedure allows the doctors to visualise the reproductive organs real-time while conducting the operation, which is why Laparoscopy is a very precise surgical method.

Laparoscopy is a minimally-invasive approach of conducting both diagnosis and surgery on female reproductive organs. The technique is minimally-invasive, which means doctors do not need to make large open cuts to operate. Due to its simple and painless approach, many patients of AFIC have chosen Laparoscopy to overcome their fertility challenges.

How is Laparoscopy performed?

Inflation of operation area

Before Laparoscopy is started, some gases like Carbon Dioxide, Helium, Nitrous Oxide are injected into the abdominal cavity to inflate the pelvic region. This inflation creates better visibility for the Laparoscope.

Laparoscope insertion

A small incision on the skin is made to insert the Laparoscope (rod-like device which has a video camera at its end). Doctors can see the real-time video footage of the internal reproductive organs on the monitor.

Monitoring

With the help of Laparoscopy, doctors can easily look around the pelvic chamber and closely observe the internal organs. Through this inspection, a lot of fertility related diseases can be identified very easily.

Operation

By making small incisions near the first incision, surgical instruments can be inserted in the pelvic region. Doctors can perform multiple operations with the help of these instruments with visual guidance on the monitor.

How is Laparoscopy procedure used?

Laparoscopy also allows doctors to conduct several surgeries on the outer layer of reproductive organs. Through the incisions made on the skin, various instruments can be inserted with which some crucial operations can be done.

With the help of hysteroscopy, doctors can conduct :

  • Removal of cysts
  • Cutting and removing adhesive tissues from fallopian tubes and uterus.
  • Endometriosis surgery
  • Fibroids removal

Advantages of Laparoscopy Technique

  • Efficient technique: Laparoscopy proves to be an excellent method for detection of a good number of infertility issues in women. Laparoscopy provides the utility of a more precise diagnosis of these conditions, as compared to other typical methods in practice.
  • Minimally-invasive Approach: Laparoscopy offers a less painful alternative to traditional surgical methods. Since it is a minimally-invasive approach, the procedure is very safe and risks of complications are minimum.
  • Better Scope: Laparoscopy enables doctors to visualize the outer surface layer of the female reproductive system. This inspection often unveils many underlying reasons of "unexplained infertility" that other diagnosis methods fail to report.
  • Quick Recovery: With Laparoscopy, doctors can perform pelvic surgeries, without having to make large open cuts on the abdomen. The recovery time is also quicker than typical methods and patients may go home on the same day of surgery.
